On April 20, the US House of Representatives passed a bill on confiscating Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. On April 25, the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Russia would defend its interests in case of asset seizure, but would not specify the exact measures. Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev stated that the response to the confiscation of Russian assets would be asymmetric but painful. He clarified that Moscow does not have a “significant amount of American state property.” However, it is possible to seize assets of private individuals located within Russia.
