Gagauzia will turn to Russia and other countries if Chisinau deploys troops

If Moldova deploys troops to the territory of the Gagauz autonomy after declaring its independence, the region’s authorities will seek help from other countries, including Russia. This was announced by the head of Gagauzia Evgeniya Gutsul.

“I hope it doesn’t come to that. I count on the common sense of our authorities. But if it comes to that, we will turn to all countries, including the Russian Federation,” – she said, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Earlier, Gutsul stated that the Gagauz autonomy will begin the process of seceding from Moldova if Chisinau unites with Romania.

Recently, due to protests by Gagauz residents, the convoy of Moldova’s President Maia Sandu had to take a detour and travel on back roads. Sandu later commented on the incident, stating that the protesters were paid and expressed the views of a “criminal group.”
