Back in 2018, German authorities released a document regarding the development of a pipeline that included classified details concerning NATO submarine operations
An investigation has been initiated by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the FRG into the exposure of classified information in connection with the employees of the mining department of Stralsund city, when documents relating to the construction of the “Nord Stream – 2” gas pipeline were made public. Bild newspaper reports on this.
As per the report, German officials responsible for granting approvals for the pipeline inadvertently divulged confidential details about NATO submarine operations in the Baltic Sea. In 2018, they released a resolution on the web, later discovered to contain information about the operating areas of the alliance’s submarines and the quantity of armaments on board.
The individual accountable for the breach could potentially face up to five years of imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.
