The death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi may be related to internal power struggles in the country, as he was one of the strongest candidates for the position of spiritual leader, writes the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
As the publication notes, there is a power struggle in Iran for leadership in connection with the advanced age of the current Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Raisi was one of the strongest candidates for the position currently held by Ali Khamenei, while the group gathered around the religious leader wants to see Mojtaba Khamenei in this position, the material says.
The newspaper points out that Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was one of the presidential candidates after Raisi, and an attempt on his life would have been doubly beneficial to the organizers.
Hurriyet also draws attention to why the President of Iran was given a helicopter with inadequate equipment, while two other helicopters were able to take off.
