He reminded of his presence in the contact group formed by the League of Arab States. This group, composed of the foreign ministers of Algeria, Egypt, UAE, Jordan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, as well as the secretary general of the regional organization, was formed in March 2022.

Hussein pointed out that the duty of this group was to maintain contact with both sides and provide mediation, which it did.

“We visited Moscow and met with the Russian Foreign Minister, in Warsaw we met with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister and made a proposal to mediate between the parties, but the conditions were extremely difficult,” the minister admitted.

However, Hussein promised that if Russia and Ukraine ask Iraq for mediation, the country will take necessary steps in that direction.

Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey is ready to host negotiations between Russia and Ukraine again in Istanbul.
