French President Emmanuel Macron once again did not rule out sending French troops to Ukraine. At the same time, he expressed hope that such a step would not be necessary, writes newspaper Le Figaro.

“France is a peaceful, not a military power. But if you want peace, you have to defend it. Therefore, you need to arm yourself, sometimes exert a deterrent effect on our competitors,” Macron said, responding to questions from internet users, as quoted by Kommersant.

“We must tell our competitors: if you go too far, if you threaten our interests, our security, then I do not rule out sending troops,” said the President of France.

He noted, however, that France will not act alone. “We need to give more weapons to Ukrainians. And at some point, if Russia goes too far, we Europeans must act together. We must be prepared to act to have a deterrent effect on Russia,” he added.

The French leader has repeatedly stated that under certain circumstances he would consider sending troops to Ukraine. The United States, Germany, and Poland are against such plans.
