The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Indian People’s Party (“Bharatiya Janata Party”) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won more than half of the seats in the lower house of the parliament of India in the election. This is evidenced by the official results of the vote count published by the NDTV channel as information comes in from the constituencies.
According to the data published after counting more than 85 % of the votes, Modi’s coalition received 276 seats in the lower house of the parliament, which has 543 seats.
The opposition coalition I.N.D.I.A. (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), consisting of 28 parties, won 205 seats.
In the previous 2019 election, the NDA won 353 seats in the lower house of parliament.
Now, Modi will be able to serve as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term.
