On Monday, the facing slabs with inscriptions were removed from the monument

In the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia, at the direction of the city’s chief architect, the process of dismantling the monument of the Soviet Army has resumed. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA).

The work resumed on Monday. The facing slabs with inscriptions were removed from the monument.

The process of dismantling the monument of the Soviet Army in Sofia started on December 12 last year at the initiative of the head of the regional administration, Vera Todeva, citing the emergency condition of the monument. During the work, all bronze figures were removed from the pedestal.

A week later, the Sofia Administrative Court, at the request of the “Revival” party, issued a decision to prohibit the dismantling of the monument. Subsequently, the Supreme Administrative Court (VAS) declared two rulings of the instance invalid, citing a lack of legal interest.
