Former US President Donald Trump won the preliminary elections from the Republicans in the states of Washington, Georgia, and Mississippi. CNN reported this. Thus, the politician gathered the necessary number of votes to be nominated for president.
“Trump wins the primaries from the Republican Party for the presidential post,” the channel reports. Trump managed to gather the necessary number of delegates for the nomination of the Republican Party’s candidate (50%), which is a minimum of 1215 delegates.
Earlier, former US President Trump surpassed his main Republican competitor, Nikki Haley. However, current American leader Joe Biden is also gathering the necessary votes. This opens the way for a possible rematch between Trump and Biden in the upcoming presidential elections, the publication writes.
The US elections will take place on November 5th. If Trump and Biden make it to them, it will be the first time since 1956 that a former US president will challenge the incumbent. Describing the competition, WSJ states, “This will be a race that will offer voters a stark choice between candidates with very different manners and agendas in the areas of economics and foreign policy.”
