The request of former US leader Donald Trump to postpone the payment deadline for the lawsuit to writer Jean Carroll in the amount of $83.3 million in a defamation case was rejected by the court. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the electronic database of court documents.
Earlier, a jury in New York sentenced Donald Trump to pay over $83.3 million in damages to writer Jean Carroll.
The former US president has three days left to make this payment. Judge Lewis Kaplan, in response to his request, stated that the current situation for Trump is “the result of his own procrastination.”
The judge emphasized that Trump should have organized his finances to make the payment back in late January when the verdict was handed down, but he waited 25 more days after the jury’s verdict before filing a motion. In the court’s opinion, Trump failed to prove that the verdict would cause him “irreparable harm” and also failed to demonstrate the expenses he would have to deal with after paying the specified amount.
“Therefore, his current motion for a temporary administrative stay is denied,” the judge’s ruling stated.
