The world’s first personalized mRNA vaccine against melanoma has begun testing on hundreds of people, as reported by The Guardian.
Experts believe it could “change the game” and has the potential to permanently cure cancer.
Phase two trials have shown that the vaccine significantly reduces the risk of cancer recurrence in skin cancer patients. The third and final trial has now commenced.
The drug is manufactured individually for each person and prompts their body to track down and neutralize cancer cells.
The vaccine is also being tested for its potential to treat other types of cancer, including lung, bladder, and kidney cancer. The work is being carried out under the guidance of the NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) hospitals at University College London.
