Russian scientists have developed a unique examination that assists in diagnosing mental illnesses. The research was conducted in collaboration with colleagues from Germany and China.

What kind of examination helps in identifying mental disorders?

It is a biochemical blood analysis that reveals mental disorders, including depression. The test’s accuracy is approximately 95%. Skolkovo professor Philip Khaitovich emphasized that schizophrenia, depression, and other mental illnesses can be observed at various levels, including their impact on brain function. And it is precisely these changes that can be observed at various levels, including changes in protein function and gene activity.

The examination is based on an analysis of the blood’s lipid composition. The alterations in it were labeled by the professor as the “universal signature of mental disorder.”

More than a thousand volunteers have already taken the test. Despite not being diagnosed with disorders, some received concerning results and sought medical attention. As a result, they were found to have significant depressive symptoms.
