Australian scientists have discovered how cold water affects health and well-being.

Researchers from the University of South Australia conducted a meta-analysis, examining 11 studies involving over 3000 participants. The results showed that cold procedures can indeed reduce stress, improve sleep and quality of life, but these effects are temporary.

Australian scientists have discovered how cold water affects health and well-being.A decrease in stress was observed only in the first 12 hours after immersion in cold water. Improvement in quality of life with a cold shower lasting 20-90 seconds disappeared after three months. One study also noted a 29% reduction in sick days among cold shower enthusiasts. However, improved sleep was only documented in men.

No evidence was found to support the positive impact of cold procedures on immunity and mood. Dr. Ben Singh explained that after immersion in cold water, there may be a temporary increase in inflammation, which is an adaptive response of the body.

Additionally, researchers emphasize that the effects depend on timing and individual differences, and recommend further studies to clarify who and how can benefit most from cold procedures.
