How often should you flip your mattress to maintain its firmness?

No matter what kind of mattress you have or what filler it has. Any product needs constant care, and the lifespan depends on how you take care of it.

How to care for a mattress?

A mattress needs to be cleaned, aired out, and protected from dirt and dust. A mattress protector is suitable for these purposes. Specialists recommend cleaning the mattress every six months to prevent bacteria and dust mites.

But it is also important to flip the mattress.

Why flip a mattress?

Today mattresses are made from quality materials, and with proper care, they can last for decades. But we usually sleep in certain positions, and it is in these areas of the mattress that indentations appear, the filler compresses, and the quality of sleep deteriorates.

Place a new mattress on a flat surface in a well-ventilated room. Leave it for at least 12 hours. Then flip the mattress and wait another 12 hours. After that, you can start using the mattress as intended. These manipulations are necessary to stabilize the internal filling of the mattress since it may have been stored on its side in the warehouse, for example.

On average, the mattress should be flipped every three months. Use weight as a guide. If the weight of the mattress owner exceeds 85 kg, it is better to flip the mattress every one and a half months. The first time, switch the head and foot sides. That is, change the position of the mattress in the horizontal plane. Then, the next time, place the mattress face down. And in the following three months, switch the head and foot sides again. After a year (if flipped every three months), the mattress will return to its original position.

If the mattress is heavy, do not flip it alone, as you may strain your back. A child’s mattress should also be flipped, especially if you plan to pass it down to younger children in the future.
