Doctor Oksana Mikhalieva: many dangerous diseases are alimentary-dependent, meaning they arise as a result of improper nutrition.

Doctor Mikhalieva pointed out that nutrition significantly influences the likelihood of developing various diseases, including dangerous ones.

“Most of the most dangerous diseases are alimentary-dependent, meaning they develop due to improper nutrition in predisposed individuals,” the medical expert noted in a comment to RIAMO.

Oksana Mikhalieva also stated that most heart diseases arise from improper nutrition, belonging to the alimentary-dependent diseases. Obesity, type 2 diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases, allergic diseases, and certain oncological diseases are also included in this group of pathologies. It is easy to notice that all of them are diseases capable of reducing people’s life expectancy.

The doctor emphasized that by adhering to the rules of healthy eating, one can significantly increase their body’s protection against serious health problems. According to Mikhalieva, one of the best ways to follow a healthy diet is to practice a diet similar to the Mediterranean diet.

Here is what should be included in such a diet

Fresh vegetables and fruits, greens – about 500 grams per day;
Nuts;
Berries;
Legumes;
Lean meat and poultry;
Fatty fish, seafood;
Unrefined vegetable oils;
Whole grains and bread;
Dairy or dairy products.

Healthy eating also involves consuming fermented products.

According to Mikhalieva, the so-called Western diet, a diet that includes very few natural products and home-cooked food, with a large proportion consisting of processed foods, leads to the development of alimentary-dependent diseases.

“This also includes sweet dairy products (yogurts, shakes), plant-based ‘milk’ with added sugar, industrial beverages such as teas (which contain as much sugar as sugary sodas), energy drinks, juices, coffee with syrup that many people often buy on their way to work,” the specialist added.
