A plastic surgery is an interesting field of medicine. It can solve health issues, such as reconstructing the breast after cancer removal, as well as help individuals achieve their desired appearance. However, many people often notice that as plastic surgery evolves, many individuals start to look alike. So why does individuality disappear with such a wide range of possibilities, aif.ru spoke with plastic and maxillofacial surgeon Amjad Al-Yusef.
Every 10-15 years, beauty trends change, sometimes subtly and sometimes drastically. Therefore, looking at the question over the past century, there is no such thing as “beauty standards.”
There was a time when curvy women were in fashion, then women with average body types were popular, followed by very thin women. At one point, overly plump lips were trendy, then this trend shifted towards natural shapes, and in recent years we are seeing a return to this trend. There is no standard that we all must conform to – it does not exist. Thus, individual issues, if we can call them that, are highly dependent on trends and fashion of the era. The solution to this problem is to resemble the trend, keep up with the times, and be close to the beauty standard of the current time period.
Currently, when it comes to plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures, we are not talking about reconstructive surgery, where there is a genuine problem that needs to be addressed. For example, a crooked nose or hump on the back. Besides the visual aspect, such issues can also cause health problems, so they can and should be resolved through plastic surgery, but not for improving appearance, but to address an existing problem.
In summary, individuals aim to conform to the beauty standards of the current period. They aspire to achieve their desired appearance, are satisfied, and become trendy. The more people want to fit into fashionable trends, the more similar features become apparent in their appearance.
