The Soviet district court of Ulan-Ude city decided to arrest the former speaker of the People’s Khural of Buryatia, Tsyren-Dashi Dorzhiev. He is charged with committing two crimes under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, as stated in the court press release. The official will remain in custody until May 29.
According to the investigation, Mr. Dorzhiev, in collusion with other suspects, acted on behalf of LLC “Vitim” and the construction company “Development.” Together, they “by deception and abuse of trust of officials” from the construction management of the government of Buryatia and Sosnovy-Ozerskaya Secondary School №1 embezzled over 36 million rubles. Other details, including the names of the other suspects, are not provided.
Last week, “Kommersant” reported the arrest of Tsyren-Dashi Dorzhiev, citing a source in law enforcement agencies. Mr. Dorzhiev held the position of speaker of the People’s Khural (parliament) of Buryatia in 2014.
