Thousands of people were injured during a celebration in Iran

More than two thousand people in Iran were injured, with 14 of them killed during the pre-New Year celebration of Chaharshanbe-Suri. This was reported by the Iranian news agency Mehr.

According to the agency, from February 20 to 22:30 on March 12, 2114 people were injured: 2100 people were injured, and 14 people died.

It is specified that among the injured, 152 people lost limbs, 700 sustained eye injuries, and 681 suffered burns.

It was previously reported that during the pre-New Year celebration of Chaharshanbe-Suri, which involves bonfires on the streets and the use of fireworks, at least 17 people were killed.

Every year in Iran, on the night of the last Wednesday of the year in the Iranian calendar, the Chaharshanbe-Suri holiday is celebrated. Traditionally, Iranians jump over bonfires during this time, and fireworks are also used during the festivities. Last year, more than 1,500 people were injured during these celebrations.
