Head of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mamiashvili, lauds the remarkable display of Russian wrestlers at the European Championship held in Bucharest

Mikhail Mamiashvili, the head of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), has given his assessment of the performance of Russian wrestlers at the European Championship in Bucharest.

He emphasized that the Russian team performed admirably despite visa restrictions and the return of athletes from the border. There was also a mention of the objective to prepare for the licensing tournament in Baku. The freestyle wrestlers managed to clinch two gold medals, prompting congratulatory messages. The Greco-Roman team also showcased a strong performance, even though the majority of athletes were debutants on the European stage. The passport regime interfered with the results of freestyle wrestling, but Mamiashvili pledged stricter control over the commitments of countries.

The European Wrestling Championship took place in Bucharest from 12th to 18th of February. Russian athletes competed in the tournament under a neutral status and secured 3 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
