The event was attended by the head of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the president of the European Olympic Committees, the head of the Paris 2024 organizing committee, and other official figures. The flame, lit in Ancient Olympia, was carried into the stadium by Greek racewalker and two-time European champion Andigoni Drizbioti. The final torchbearer to run to the finish line was the captain of the Greek men’s water polo team, Ioannis Fountoulis. At the conclusion, the head of the Hellenic Olympic Committee received the Olympic flame from the high priestess – actress Maria Mina – and passed it on to the head of the Paris 2024 organizing committee.
