An astronomer scientist has warned about cosmic radiation that can destroy civilizations

Gamma-ray bursts could lead to the demise of all extraterrestrial civilizations. Such rays occur in all galaxies at least once every hundred million years, according to Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University, Frederick Walter.

“It is estimated that gamma-ray bursts occur in all galaxies once every hundred million years or so. Over a billion years, many (extraterrestrial – ed. URA.RU) civilizations should perish, if they exist,” Walter said in an interview with the British publication Daily Mail.

He also noted that gamma rays are capable of destroying life on 10% of all planets in a galaxy.

Walter stated that there is no need to worry about such an event, as the likelihood of Earth encountering it is extremely low. Additionally, gamma rays are rare and precisely targeted, making it impossible to prepare for a collision with them.
