The Chinese National Space Administration has announced that the landing module of the Chinese probe “Chang’e-6” successfully landed on the far side of the Moon. The information is reported by Xinhua.

The spacecraft landed in a pre-selected landing zone in the South Pole-Aitken Basin. The mission’s goal is to collect soil samples.

This is China’s sixth mission under the “Chang’e” lunar exploration program. As part of the “Chang’e-5” mission, China in 2020 brought back samples from the visible side of the Moon. Prior to this, the last time lunar rock was brought back to Earth was as part of the Soviet “Luna-24” mission in 1976.
