Last year, Russians mass went on vacation to friendly India, and as a result, in just the first nine months, the tourist flow reached 60,000 people, which is more than the total results of 2022. Of course, one of the favorite places is Goa – a state located in the southwest of the country. Although the locals are very loyal to Russian-speaking tourists, it is important not to forget the need to adapt to local life, especially in financial matters. The currency used in Goa is Indian rupees.
“When heading to Goa, Russian tourists are better off bringing US dollars in cash, and preferably in different denominations,” said Roman Gareev, Ph.D. in Economics, associate professor of the Department of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. – Carrying up to 5,000 dollars does not require filling out a declaration upon arrival. Dollars are accepted in hotels, banks, in many stores, and in taxis. However, it is better to exchange dollars for rupees right away, as when buying souvenirs, paying in restaurants and cafes, local residents mostly only accept the national currency – it’s more convenient for them.”
Remember that “Mir” bank cards do not work on the territory of Goa, but foreign cards from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and any other country – VISA and Mastercard, work, with which you can make contactless payments in large shopping centers, hotels, and restaurants, or withdraw the necessary amount from local ATMs.
“Euro is not a popular currency in Goa and it is better not to bring them with you.”
