Russian Foreign Ministry strongly recommends avoiding travel to Afghanistan

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly advises Russians to refrain from traveling to Afghanistan for any purpose, including tourism.

This recommendation was issued against the backdrop of an extremely complex security situation in the country following an attack on foreign tourists. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, on May 17, three tourists from Spain were killed in an armed attack at a market in Bamyan, and four other foreigners (citizens of Australia, Spain, Lithuania, and Norway) were seriously injured.

The next day, the death toll from the attack increased to six: three foreign tourists and three Afghan citizens. Seven people, including three Afghans and four foreign tourists, were injured.
