Authorities in the Czech Republic have extended the ban on issuing visas to citizens of Russia and Belarus indefinitely.
Prime Minister Petr Fiala stated that the decision to ban visas for Belarusians and Russians was made in the spring of 2022 and was initially supposed to be in effect until March 31, 2024. However, at the suggestion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the government’s decision no longer specifies a specific duration for these measures.
Applications for residency permits in the Czech Republic submitted by Russians or Belarusians to the embassy are considered unacceptable and will not be processed. Starting in 2023, this ban also includes citizens of Russia and Belarus who also hold citizenship of other countries.
The decision does not affect those who already have residency permits in the Czech Republic, as well as applicants for short-term visas if they are family members of a Czech citizen or an EU citizen they are accompanying or following.
This also does not apply to citizens of Belarus applying for a residency permit for the purpose of studying at a university based on scholarships provided by the Czech Republic, the European Union, or international organizations.
